Yes Energy Gains Real-Time Cloud Cost Governance with LucidPoint

About Yes Energy
Yes Energy is a leading provider of data solutions for the North American power market, serving utilities, energy traders, and market participants with the information they need to make faster, smarter decisions. The company delivers comprehensive market data, powerful analytics, and intuitive visualization tools that enable customers to navigate the complex and fast-moving energy landscape. With a focus on innovation, accuracy, and reliability, Yes Energy empowers its clients to identify opportunities, manage risk, and operate with greater confidence in competitive power markets.
The Challenge
Before working with LucidPoint, Yes Energy relied on manual cost reporting processes that were slow, error-prone, and risky from both an operational and compliance standpoint. Generating a cost report could take up to two days, and without a central source of truth, data integrity issues and inconsistent tagging made it difficult to attribute costs accurately.
The lack of automation also meant that business leaders had limited visibility into spending trends, making it harder to forecast budgets or identify optimization opportunities. Yes Energy needed a solution that could replace manual workflows with automated reporting, align account structures with AWS best practices, improve tagging governance, and deliver the insights needed for proactive budget management.
LucidPoint’s Solution
LucidPoint deployed the AWS Cost Analysis Architecture, a multi-account solution with documented, repeatable configuration and a runbook to ensure consistency, scalability, and repeatability.. The architecture separated production and development environments, with secure cross-account S3 replication allowing development teams to access necessary data without exposing production systems.
Cost and Usage Reports (CUR) are ingested into Amazon S3, transformed and queried in Amazon Athena, and visualized in Amazon QuickSight dashboards. These dashboards include ML-powered forecasting models that use more than a year of historical data to project spending patterns.
Security and governance were integrated from the ground up. Role-based IAM access followed least-privilege principles, with bucket policies restricting access to sensitive cost data and AWS Config rules enforcing consistent tagging. CloudTrail logs and S3 access logs provided an immutable audit trail, while operational KPIs, such as data replication success rates, query performance, and dashboard adoption, were actively monitored to ensure the solution’s ongoing reliability.
The implementation also incorporated detailed cost allocation strategies, using tagging and custom Athena views that served as cost categories to attribute costs to the correct business units, projects, and customers. LucidPoint then delivered a comprehensive Cloud Financial Management training program, enabling Yes Energy’s internal teams to interpret cost data, manage dashboards, and implement optimization strategies on their own.
Architecture Overview
The diagram below illustrates the AWS Cost Analysis Architecture LucidPoint implemented for Yes Energy. It shows the multi-account structure, secure cross-account data flows, cost processing pipeline, and the reporting outputs that enable real-time financial insights.

From Visibility to Action
The solution was designed not only to report on costs but also to enable smarter decision-making. QuickSight dashboards revealed opportunities to rightsize RDS instances, implement S3 Intelligent Tiering for infrequently accessed data, and optimize ECS task scheduling to reduce idle time. Recommendations were delivered with projected savings, allowing Yes Energy to make informed tradeoffs before changes were applied.
By giving stakeholders real-time insights into spending patterns and resource utilization, the solution turned cloud cost management from a reactive process into a proactive strategy.
The Results
The impact was immediate and measurable. Yes Energy reduced operational risk from manual reporting by an estimated 80% and improved tagged resource visibility by more than 20%, enabling more accurate chargebacks. Near real-time forecasting capabilities now allow financial leaders to anticipate budget trends and adjust proactively, while the environment’s security posture has been strengthened through consistent governance and role-based access controls.
The architecture not only meets AWS MAP Mobilization requirements but also provides Yes Energy with a scalable foundation for future cloud growth. With automated reporting, proactive optimization, and audit-ready controls, the company is positioned to manage cloud spend with greater confidence and efficiency.
